Smilebox is a fun and easy-to-use site. Their simple software lets you quickly and easily create slideshows, invitations, greetings, collages, scrapbooks, and photo albums right on your computer. With more than 1000 customizable templates to choose from, inspiration is right around the corner! The first thing I did was sign-up for Smilebox. You need a username and password. Although the program is free, I joined Club Smilebox because they were offering a free two-week trial. Club Smilebox allows for full screen, ad-free playback, you can print at home or a store, burn your creation to DVD and save to photo frame, use their music (2000+ songs) or yours, and unlimited storage for shared creations. After signing-up, you click on the link “Get Started.” It will then prompt you to launch the application Smilebox Starter. Once the application is open you choose which theme you want. I selected anytime; however, there are a plethora of themes to choose from. Then you decide what you want to design (e.g. a collage, invitation, photo album, calendar, etc.). I chose #70-The Picture Whirl Slideshow. You then decide which photos you want to use in your slideshow. You can upload them from your USB or files on your computer. The Picture Whirl slideshow allows for up to 25 photos. You drag the picture onto the spot you want it to go. After you have your pictures arranged, you can then choose your music and background. Music can be uploaded from Itunes or the program also has some pre-set music. Once your project is complete it is a good idea to save it on your computer. You can then share, print, or DVD your creation. Smilebox is great for projects. It seems especially applicable for book reports. Students could also create a slideshow about a variety of language arts topics: their favorite books, parts of speech, etc. I recommend smilebox to everyone: teachers, students, parents, anyone who likes taking their pictures to a whole new level! Although I did not really see the point of the Picture Whirl Slideshow, there are a wide variety of other creations to choose from. My Slideshow was all about school, reading, and faith. Thus, Smilebox is a neat discovery and I will make sure to use it in my future classroom.
